University of Southern Indiana - ESLI

"When I came to the United States I
could only speak a few phrases and
I wondered if I would ever be able to
handle the English language. The
teachers at ESLI gave me all the
attention that I needed and now I
feel confident in my ability to
become proficient in English."

"I was very nervous about leaving
home for the first time. When I arrived,
the staff and teachers at ESLI gave me
a lot of comfort and understood my
fears. They made my transition to the

Location

The University of Southern Indiana is located in Evansville, Indiana, the state's third largest city.  Located on the banks of the mighty Ohio River, the city has long been the cultural and economic center of the region.  As a USI student, you will be living in one of "America's Safest Cities" according to Money magazine.  The Evansville metropolitan area is home to approximately 300,000 residents.

USI offers a suburban atmosphere with inviting walkways and grassy, tree-lined spaces.  Academic buildings, administrative offices, and the University Center are located west of the main drive.  University housing is situated on the northeast and south sides of the campus within walking distance of all campus buildings.  Free shuttle buses run from housing to the center of campus.

Evansville is a comfortable drive to major metropolitan areas such as Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville and St. Louis.

Campus

USI is a state-assisted, four-year university in Evansville, Indiana, founded in 1965 with over 10,000 students from Indiana, 32 states and 33 countries.  The University of Southern Indiana has a student/faculty ratio of 18:1.  Teaching matters most at USI.  Most classes have 25 or fewer students, so students and faculty develop a close working relationship, which is not always possible in some university settings.

Academic Excellence

The University of Southern Indiana offers 60 major fields of study.  Students enroll in one of five schools - Business, Education and Human Services, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Health Professions, and Science and Engineering Technology.

The business school is accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

USI students have access to today's technology through almost 450 computers located in laboratories throughout the academic buildings and residence life.

Residence Life

USI offers two kinds of housing through the Residence Life program.  One is the conventional apartment and the other is suite-style housing in residence halls.

Each traditional apartment offers a kitchen, dining area, living room, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms.  These apartments are fully furnished and include full-size refrigerator and stove.  You and your apartment-mates will access your apartment from exterior corridors.

The residence halls offer two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living space, and - instead of a complete kitchen - a snack area with sink, under-counter refrigerator, and cupboards.  All students in the residence halls participate in the meal plan available in the University Center.  The residence halls have a central entrance and reception area.  You and your apartment-mates will access your apartment from interior corridors.

No matter which housing style you choose, you have these benefits:
