Turkey Student Testimonials

ESLI provided me with very good opportunities not only to improve my English but also to meet students from other countries and exchange our cultures. Before taking this course, I was not confident about my English skills, and expressing my opinions was my major concern. Throughout this course, I learned several techniques that helped me to develop my writing skills and how to enhance my critical thinking skills. ESLI is an absolutely great and professional institution with lots of opportunities for students to improve their listening and speaking abilities, fundamental for debates and presentations in the Graduate School. I’m really satisfied with the education given me here and I highly recommend ESLI to those who wish to learn and improve their English language skills.

I live in Ruston Hall. I have three roommates. Our room has two bedrooms and between bedrooms, we have a living room. Katie and I stay the same bedroom. Silvia and Amber stay the other bedroom. Our room is modern but small. I love my roommates, but sometimes, it can be difficult to share a room. In USI we can do a lot of activities. We went swimming yesterday and we will go everyday. Sometimes I really miss my country because USA has different culture than Turkey. I know USI is a new start to rest of my life. When I go back to Turkey, I will be very lucky to find a job. I am really happy to be here.

ESLI gave me the chance of learning a second language, making new friends, discovering the American culture, and also other cultures. When I came to the United States, I found myself so depressed and unhappy. However, after I entered Classroom East and met the teachers and other students, everybody tried to help me adjust to my new life. I was thinking about going back to my country, but now I do not want to leave. Because I shared my problems with teachers and other students, I was able to see that other students had had the same problems. I was able to solve my problems with the help of my new friends. So, I really want to say that the ESLI courses are not only academic courses, they are courses that teach life skills. The teachers and staff are very friendly and helpful. I am thankful for the wonderful teachers that taught English skills and listened to me when I needed their help. Thanks also to my friends for sharing everything and helping me to adjust to the USA.

My name is Duygu Baydur. I'm from Turkey. I came here to improve my English, and I feel too, that it's the best decision in my life because I want to be an actress. I'm very happy to be here. Of course, in spite of everything it's hard. Sometimes I feel bad and sometimes I feel good, but I had known this before I came here. Especially, my boyfriend affected my life. I didn't go outside. But I know that it's not true now. I'm trying to go out, talk to people, or have fun because we really started to be good friends. I love form life here. Everything is on spur of the moment, fast, and about fun. I love to join some activities with my friends. I always try hard to do this. Also, I have teachers who care a lot for us. However, I know some people who help me, and it makes me feel relaxed here. My classes are not hard for now. I have a lot of time because of this. I think that I used my time as much as I can. I always have self confidence, and I don't have a problem about this. Also, my friends are really helpful, and they tried to show me which thing is true. Now, I'm trying to talk to people more than I talk to my boyfriend. It makes me improve a lot. I know what to do. The thing that is very important is to keep trying. I realized that I have to do these true things. It just took a long time, but it does not matter how much. I learned s lot of things here. I understood to being here helps me what is important to me in my life. Finally, if I want to go home, I can do it. But, when I thought that I still want to be an actress, I can stay here. These are all my decisions and even though I have a lot of homesick, I am very happy to be here because I have dreams.

While studying in ESLI, I read and learn more while preparing for the GMAT. This is also a chance to meet other international students and make good friends. I feel more confident about entering graduate school because of the way ESLI has prepared me for the Master’s program. It is not only an English language school.

Evsen, Irem - Turkey

In my opinion, the ESLI program has been very helpful during my adjustment period in America. Not only do teachers teach English but also help with every problem that I have. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to understand about other countries' accents and culture. ESLI is very successful on building a platform where international students from all around the world can build friendships with each other. It is a pleasure for me to be a member of this program because of the good experiences that I will never forget.

When I was a kid, I never dreamed of studying in America. I was always stuck to my mother and only imagined studying in Istanbul. I decided to come to the United States when I was in the tenth grade because I knew that the US was the best place for my education and for my future. Like other international students, I came to the US with a lot of hopes. The day I graduated from ESLI was a big day for me because I was one step closer to my dreams. I hope I will learn many things from my American education and that my expectations will come true. For this reason, I am glad I chose to attend ESLI at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and to study in America.

My education in ESLI has helped me in many ways. I studied English for seven years at a private high school in Istanbul, but when I came to Corpus Christi I found that I had forgotten most of it in the five years since graduation. ESLI has definitely helped me to recall what I learned before and actually improved my comprehension and writing skills. More than that, the program has helped me to prepare for a university education, personally and mentally. While at ESLI, I have adapted to my new environment, practiced how to plan my day, and made close friends, which I am sure will help me to do very well in the university. I advise anyone who wants to improve his skills in writing and comprehension before entering the university to attend ESLI.
