Korea Student Testimonials
I am Joo-hyun Ahn from South Korea. Studying at ESLI McNeese was a turning point in my life because it gave me new goals and helped me prepare for them.
First, ESLI has helped me improve my English skills. When I came here, I did not expect that I could speak English as well as I can after just 5 months. Although I cannot understand and speak as well as a native, I have confidence to speak English now.
ESLI teachers are not only teachers but also second mothers for me. They taught me English and helped me adapt to American culture. I cannot forget when an ESLI teacher was crying with one of my ESLI friends when my friend cried because of her grade and being home sick.
After finishing ESLI, I will get a chance to study the MBA course at Mcneese. I consider ESLI as my first step to my real dream.
Second, it was a chance to extend my human network. I made many international friends during my study at ESLI. I think these friends are my most valuable asset.
Overall, ESLI has done something very important, and the experiences I have had studying in this program are unforgettable. Ahn, Joohyun - Korea

When I came back to USI from Korea for summer vacation, I already forgot about English, so I could not adapt to the ESLI English program. It was a hard time at the moment, but all of the teachers teach me very well, so I have spoken English again, and I have gotten pride.
When I started ESLI, I was so embarrassed - everybody spoke English much better than I. And, if I had a speech, I was red in my face. That is my problem, but my teacher made us give speeches many times, so now I like speech, kind of… not pretty much. Anyway, I was quiet, but now I become talkative. I really thank ESLI for teaching English. Cho, Joon Hei - Korea

When I arrived at the university, I didn't know anything, and my English skill was very poor. I worried about food, housing and communication, but the ESLI teachers helped me with off of my problems. They advised me about how to buy food and how to take a bus. They introduced me to American guys, and we became friends. I also met people form other countries and made international friends. All the teachers are very kind and smart. If I was sick. I called my teachers and they helped with a lot of my problems. The ESLI level systems are good for my studying. The ESLI classes subdivide 5 classes: reading, writing, listening and speaking, grammar, skills. Every part has a good teacher/ I like ESLI program, because it helps make my English skills better than before, and helps me with my American life.Cho, Jung-Ik - Korea

I joined the first ESLI program in Texas A&M Corpus Christi during the fall of 2005. When I applied for this new program, I had no idea what to expect. I came to school worried and with much curiosity. To my surprise, all of ESLI staff helped me very much in adjusting to a new setting and a new way of life in Texas. ESLI TAMUCC also provided very precious activities that are difficult to experience if a student is not enrolled in this program. For example, I attended the annual King Ranch ceremony in Kingsville, Texas, and had the opportunity to go to San Antonio on a field trip. As far as the English program, it is intensive in order to get international students ready for the regular college courses. I strongly recommend the program to students who are willing to study English and learn about the Texas culture.Choi, Joo-Sik - Korea

When I came to ESLI, I have a test. At first time, it seems that I study very hard. As long as I study my English has great improvement. Because of the help from my teachers and classmates, my listening, oral speaking and reading become better. I feel the teacher's explanations are very clear and they are kind to me. First of all, I would like to choose this point about TWU ESLI as a favourite thing. This course is really good for people who want to study in North America because it teaches the western way to think, to organize and to express. The four parts of this course, writing, reading, listening and speaking are composed very well and moreover, every part supports each other. Furthermore, these concentrate on helping students to improve their English ability in preparation of studying for their major in university. In my opinion, this course is distinguished from mere studying for a TOEFL score. I think that my decision of studying at TWU ESLI is pretty good.Kim, Doo-Kyum - Korea

I like ESLI. Most of all I like my classes. To learn English is good. I don't know how good my English skill is. However, I'm ok because I have only been here one month. I like my classes. Grammar is very useful and interesting. I'm weak in writing. Other classes are listening, speaking, reading and intensive skills. I hope to get more English skill. My teachers at ESLI help me to do that. I'm good in ESLI. Kim, Myung Eun - Korea

Through the ESLI program, my English skills have improved very much. The program helped me to develop diverse English, such as writing, grammar, speaking, and listening. Not only does the ESLI staff teach English, it also provides a place where students can experience the United States of America's culture. Moreover, the ESLI staff tries very hard to solve any other problems that students might confornt in getting adjusted to the American culture. Kim, Sang Muk - Korea

I have been in Canada since I came here in January 2004. When I came here my English was so awful. I remember the paragraph draft which I wrote for the first time here
because it was terrible. But, I'm getting better because I have several excellent teachers at ESLI. Going to TWU is like my destiny. I'm satisfied with the pastoral campus, advanced buildings, and kind friends. TWU was established by Christ's spirit so they have a wholesome mind. My English skills are getting better. I'm so proud of my school, TWU, and thankful to my parents for giving me a chance to study here. Lee, Young Jae - Korea

The location that is calm and isn't complicated makes it possible for us to concentrate on studying. Also as a mission university, TWU helps students not to be exposed to drugs or smoking. The teachers are sincere and teach eagerly. Finally, it is advantageous that the students who study at ESLI can enter TWU without TOEFL requirement. Lee, Young Jin - Korea

I like ESLI because there are good programs, teachers and friends. When I came to USI, I was surprised because
it was so clean. And I was surprised because there were a lot of trees. It is a beautiful campus. Do you know?
We have very, very good programs. I go to Talk-time every Friday. I would like to recommend USI for any people who visit USI. It has attractive campus and clean. And there are very few Korean. But, if we are few, we know each other and we do not fight. We are like a family. I like ESLI teachers and students very much. Mun, Eunhye - Korea

I have studied at ESLI for 4 months. When I came to America, I was timid and my English was clumsy. It was difficult to speak English with native speakers. Now that I have attended ESLI for two semesters I am eager to speak English. I study hard. I look forward to attending WKU as an undergraduate student. Myung, Seung Hyun - Korea

I have special memories of ESLI school. When I came for the first time to ESLI school, most of the students were Chinese, so I worried about that. But I'm O.K. now because they are very kind and good students. I took many exams and tests. It was very stressful, but it improved my English. I don't know many things about English yet, so I continue to study hard. Park, EunHye - Korea

I came here 6 months ago to learn English. At the start, I couldn’t speak any words to others. Maybe I was afraid of them. However, time goes on and on and now I can speak to my roommates and classmates.
I think it’s very lucky to come here to learn English. If there are people whom I know who want to go abroad, I’ll say, "Welcome to USI!" Park, Sang Jin - Korea

I actually had always been fond of studying English. However, when I made the first step in America three months ago, I had to face the reality that language is not just one subject in school. At first, it was really tough to be in an environment that is completely different and full of English. It would have been frustrating, or even impossible to adapt if ESLI didn’t help and advise me. To begin with, they provided me with an airport pick-up and helped me with food and shelter problems very carefully. I really appreciate that ESLI cared about me with those personal things besides class. Needless to say, the curriculum was perfect for improving my English. Since I came here to study in college, I surely needed to improve English in an academic way. I strongly believe that the teaching method in ESLI was the most effective and incredible way I’ve ever experienced. They managed each of the students individually so that every student improves for certain. There were assignments such as professor interviews or sitting in classes, which could be the bridge to MSU. I have gone through a really intense course, and now I am fairly confident that I am capable for college classes. I also had a very delightful time with many friends who came from all over the world. It was a priceless experience to know and understand each other’s different cultures. Looking back, to study abroad was one of the most difficult decisions I made, but also the most worthwhile. I will never forget the wonderful time I had with ESLI in McNeese State University. Sohn, Ki Rak - Korea

Actually, when I was in my country, I didn't expect that I could have a good experience in Canada. However, at ESLI at TWU, I have had an unforgettable experience. I met excellent teachers. They were capable, kind and trustworthy. They encouraged me and helped me to find my strength in English. If I didn't meet them, I might have abandoned studying English. I recommend you to have a chance to study with excellent teachers and good friends at ESLI at Trinity Western University. Son, Young Chang - Korea

I am a student of English as a Second Language International at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. After finish ESLI, I am going to study Counseling in graduate school. I have never heard about MSU and Lake Charles before I came here. Now I love MSU and this city because most of teachers are very nice and friendly. I have several native friends who live in Lake Charles or MSU students. They open their minds and always try to help us. MSU is great school to study, especially academic English, and make some native friends, I think. Come to MSU and join us than make your dream come truth yourself. My teachers and many friends are will help you.Suk, Chang Lak - Korea
