Indonesia Student Testimonials

The ESLI program gave me many lessons on how to improve my English skills. It especially helped me in developing my grammar and writing skills. Furthermore, ESLI has a good program to prepare all students before entering the university. In addition, we do not only study about English, we also learn about the American culture. Here, we can learn about different cultures because we make new freinds from other countries. For me, it has been a good experience to study English in the ESLI program.

My name is Yerikho and I’m currently in the ESLI program at Mcneese State University. After I graduate from ESLI I’m going to major in finance. Before I left Indonesia, I was thinking that studying ESLI will be boring like the other Language school that I attended before coming to America. But, after I enrolled in ESLI, I feel so comfortable with the environment. The teachers treat me like my parents do. They have always directed me and the other students, and teach us with passion and enthusiasm. I enjoy studying here, and I feel there is much improvement in my writing skills, grammar, reading, speaking, and listening. They do not only teach English but also teach how to adapt to life in America, how to interact with people, how to give a speech, and many more lessons that I can’t take in other language schools. The students are very kind. I know students from Saudi, Vietnam, China, Colombia, and Korea. They are very friendly. Studying in ESLI is a good way to prepare me before entering the university, and to improve my English.

My name is Deddy Kristanto and I am from Indonesia. I liked studying in the English program (ESLI) at McNeese State University because all the teachers teach me how to correctly use English and they are very helpful. In addition, I like Lake Charles, a small city, because the place is quiet, so I can quietly learn to improve my English. Also, the environment is more comfortable to study English. During my last semester (Fall 2004), I took the Advanced Level and I studied more about English such as writing a research paper, giving a persuasive speech, paraphrasing, and making sentences using correct grammar. Furthermore, my vocabulary increased, my pronunciation became better, and my reading skills improved. Besides that, I made a lot of friends who are American, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Turkish, and South American.

It was a pleasure to take ESLI. You are so warm and helpful. Through this letter I want to share my experiences and thoughts about ESLI. It has been almost five months since I live here, and it is almost finished. I had a great time with the teachers and my new friends here. At first, I thought it was useless to take ESLI because I had studied English in my country for years, but I got benefits from it. First, writing class is the most useful class for me because writing is the most important skill in academic study. I have improved a lot thanks to ESLI. As a result, they helped me very much. I have many new friends from other countries and can learn about their cultures. I also am accustomed with American culture and the way of life here, even though I do not completely understand the social system yet. I have great experiences with ESLI teachers and friends. I will miss my teachers and some friends who will transfer to another universities, but I have precious moments with them. Thank you ESLI for helping me from when I came until now. May you be always healthy and happy. God Bless You!

Hi, I’m Melissa Pangestu from Indonesia. At first I thought entering ESLI at McNeese would make me bored, but on the contrary, I had a really good time. The ESLI program is improving my English and other skills that are required to be an American student, such as writing a research paper, giving a speech, and also comphrehension skills. At ESLI, I learned not only English skills, but also learned to make a lot of friends from different countries. They are very friendly and willing to help each other. I am very glad to have the ESLI program before I enter McNeese State University, because the teachers really showed us American culture and the system of education in America. I found it interesting being a student here, and i am really thankful that I am prepared by the ESLI program. We passed time together, we talked to each other, and we share things as a family. These really make me proud of being a part in ESLI.

TAMUCC was my choice for a graduate education because of the reputation of its Master of Education program. I believe that after I earn my degree I will be prepared for a great career. Another factor was the way this campus welcomes international students, with whom I can share life experience.

Attending ESLI at McNeese during fall season has been very interesting. I have learned a lot and gotten the experiences of being a freshman in a college. There were many freshmen who attended McNeese at that time, so I did not feel like I was the only one. People here are very nice and willing to help each other. One more fun thing that I enjoyed very much: Homecoming. It was so much fun! I joined Oozeball and decorated and rode the float. I met a lot of new people in Homecoming season, so I improved my English; plus, I got a lot of friends too. Now, I feel a lot more confident with my English and I have friends. I am very happy with that!

The most exciting part of being a student at ESLI and at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is the people. I have met many people and made lots of friends. These people not only come from many different parts of America but also from different countries. I couldn't wait to join in the activities on campus because I believe there is a time for me to work really hard on my future and a time for me to enjoy my life as a teenager and young adult. I want to keep all of my memorable experiences of my university life and save them in a special box because I know that I will never repeat this moment. My main purpose for coming to the United States was to get knowledge. I have entered the field of Medical Science, and although I am still a freshman, I hope to find my true destination along the way.

It has been my dream to continue my further education here, getting my bachelor degree. I have a lot of fun in America with an enormous mixture of countries. Day by day has passed, and I am really heartsick to realize that the ESLI classes will be over soon. ESLI is such an excellent start to begin my learning process with the balance of the educational and the friendly atmosphere. I gain more knowledge in English, American's culture, international friendship, and life experience. I have a Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese and of course 4 other Indonesian friends. After so many days we spent together, friendship has been created and we like to spend time together outside of class. It is all because the small-sized classes that ESLI has designed that made us become more united. The group assignments given to us also made us have to talk with each other so we can finish the task given. English is a crucial thing for me. To speak and write fluently in English is a must for me. In ESLI, I have learned how to write a research paper, which is very important for my bachelor degree because there will be a lot of paper assignments. In my home country, writing is not as stressed as grammar. It is such a blessing that we learned how to do the research paper in class. Besides, it improves my vocabulary and writing skill. My last word, my days in ESLI have been gratifying. I will miss the days I have spent with friends and teachers in class. Thank you for ESLI for facilitating us.

I'm an ESLI student. I'm writing this letter to express my gratitude to ESLI. As an overview, I graduated from Bina Nusantara University in Indonesia, majoring in Information Technology. Before I enrolled in ESLI classes, I never thought that I, who got quite good scores in college, would have difficulty in this class. I felt nervous after I knew how different Americans use English, and this became worse for me when the classes started. Luckily, my classes have very skillful and dependable teachers that solved my English crisis. They helped me a lot increasing my English knowledge especially my weakness in speaking and writing. What I like about them is their explanation for answers that they gave with patience until I understood. ESLI class is really different from all of my classes before. Teachers have their own teaching method to help our English, which I find strange, but it works. I feel happy in this class, because it really improve my English ability for my next education level.

I came here with my brother, Henry Susanto. My first day in ESLI was great. I thought that I was really late considering that I arrived and started class about 3 weeks late, but they tried to make me fit in the class and went beyond my expectation to catch up on the lessons. I like the environment here. They are really helpful with all of the assignments and daily difficulties. I like the way the teachers teach us & their approach to make us study. In fact I like everyone here. I have so much fun here. Learning English here is fascinating and interesting or in Japanese language "omoshikatta". My English and my writing ability improve so much. Although I still have to work on my grammar but I know I can do best in my studies with all my experiences here. Plus, I also have a lot of international friends now.

ESLI McNeese was the first place I attended before going to the university. ESLI taught me to improve my English, especially in writing, reading, notetaking, listening and grammar. By studying in ESLI, I could meet a lot of friends from different countries like China, Korea, Vietnam, Colombia and Saudi Arabia. This gave me exposure to a multi-cultural experience before continuing my study in the university. During my first time in the United States, I had some difficulties in adapting myself to live here, but the teachers in ESLI helped me to overcome the difficulties. I think ESLI is one of the best places for foreign students to prepare themselves before continuing in further education in the United States. Thank You ESLI !

I was transfered from ESLI at Western Kentucky University before I entered advanced level at McNeese State University. My first impression for ESLI in McNeese was really well-organized. My goals at ESLI are to speak English fluently and also have good skill in writing which is hard work to do. Now, after 3 months of studying in advanced class I feel my English and writing are improved and much better than before. Honestly, advanced class is not easy, it really requires hard work to get a high score on every test. Sometimes I felt a little bit frustrated and tired because there were no days without homework or quizzes. Even though I know they are good for me. Being a student in ESLI gives me a lot of friends from other countries, and I am really excited because I can learn and know many things about people who came from other countries. My classmates are really funny and easy going so it is really sad if I remember that my class will be finished in two weeks from now because we have gotten close to each other and become best friends. Teachers for me are the most important part of ESLI, I really love them because they are really patient to us as international students and teach us from their hearts. I really appreciated all my teachers especially for their discipline and understanding.
