I had a lot of unforgettable memories while studying ESLI courses. I have already studied in ESLI for three months. I gained knowledge about English and ESLI teachers also taught us other skills that were helpful. I am pretty sure that my English progressed, especially writing. Furthermore, I had some first experiences that I was impressed with. While doing a presentation for the first time, I was nervous but excited. The first time I tried to write a research paper, it was a big challenge for me because I had never been to the school’s library and knew nothing about a research paper. When I found the first book I needed in the MSU library, it was difficult to describe how excited I was. I think ESLI courses helped me to meet the university’s requirements. It was a gift that ESLI courses gave me to adapt to university life better. Additionally, I know more about American and other counties’ cultures. Teachers often added some interesting events that related to American culture to our class and we also shared different cultures with our classmates. We saw American movies and laughed together, which was a wonderful time for me. We were in a small but varied family that was filled with happiness.

Hi,I am Suya Wang. I am from China. One year ago I came to ESLI at McNeese State University to study English. That was very hard for me, because when I was in China ,my second language was Russian. I had never studied English in my home country. My agency introduced me to ESLI at Mcneese State Univ. At that time my agency told me that the city of Lake Charles is a small city. It is very peaceful and good to study, and also she told me the ESLI course will be helpful and useful for me. When I arrived in Lake Charles, I was scared about the different country and language, but a teacher, picked me up and drove me to the dorm. I remember clearly that she said to me” Suya, I know you are tired, take your time and sleep. Tomorrow I will come here to show you our university and we will go to the market to buy what you need.” Right now, one year later, I will finish the ELSI course at Mcneese, and I will study electrical engineering for two more years here. I am so glad that I came here. My English is getting better, and I am ready to study in American classes. Moreover, I met a lot of friends that includes our teachers!

Choosing to study in ESLI is the most important decision of my life. I have already got a bachelor’s degree in China and work in a university as a teacher in charge of 400 students’ daily administration affairs. In order to get a higher position, I need a higher degree; therefore, I choose to study abroad and I choose ESLI firstly to improve my language. I spent almost twenty hours on the plane before I arrived at Lake Charles where ESLI located. Fortunately, it was easy that I found the teacher who received me in the airport. In the later days, I study in the advance level and I try my best to study every class. All the teachers are friendly, humorous and experienced. They do their best to help all the students to improve their English and to help with the students’ private affairs. I still remember the day in class when all the students sang the Happy birthday song to me and the teacher distributed candy to all students to celebrate my birthday.
